The South China Stem Cell Translational Resource Center is supported by the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It has a storage center covering over 1,000 square meters in the Guangzhou Development Zone, with a cell storage capacity of approximately 20,000 cell lines, capable of accommodating 480,000 1.2-2 mL cryopreservation tubes. Additionally, the cell bank is equipped with a GMP production workshop, a standardized cell testing laboratory platform, a programmable cooling system, and a CellSOP cell cryopreservation management system. These facilities ensure effective circulation and high-quality management of cells throughout their lifecycle.
The South China Stem Cell Translational Resource Center focuses on preserving cell resources from the South China region, including those from unique ethnic groups and populations, as well as new or specific cell resources developed by research teams and related omics information (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, and proteomics). The Center has established over 500 cell lines, including those derived from healthy individuals, disease sources (such as thalassemia, Huntington's disease, and Parkinson's disease), and gene-edited models.
The South China Stem Cell Translational Resource Center offers services for stem cell acquisition, identification, and automated expansion, supporting leading research teams in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Its standardized cell testing laboratory successfully passed accreditation from the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) on July 21, 2021, receiving the CNAS accreditation mark and certificate. The laboratory primarily provides scientific, accurate, fair, and efficient standardized quality assessments for various cells or biological products with potential therapeutic applications, such as mesenchymal stem cells, immune cells, hematopoietic stem cells, and neural stem cells. This ensures robust support for stem cell translational research in China and provides crucial backing for product development and industrial growth.
The South China Stem Cell Translational Resource Center, centered in Guangzhou, primarily serves research teams in stem cell and regenerative medicine within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, extending its reach throughout South China. The Center preserves cell resources and supports scientific research while also providing a platform for public education on stem cells and regenerative medicine, offering outreach and educational resources to the public.
