A delegation from Berlin, Germany, led by Markus C. Wahl, biochemistry Professor at the Free University Berlin, visited GIBH at the invitation of Prof. Ralf Jauch on Oct. 20 2014 as a first stop of a 1-week tour across China.
The delegation included six additional professors (Petra Knaus, Nan Ma, Volker Haucke, Christian Freund, Udo Heinemann, Florian Heyd) representing four German research organizations namely the Free University Berlin, Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology, Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine and Helmholtz Center Geesthacht accompanied him.
Profs Wahl, Nan Ma and Petra Knaus delivered lectures to students and faculty of the GIBH on topics ranging from mRNA splicing to translational stem cell biology. Beate Rogler, head of the FU Berlin Beijing Office, briefed GIBH students and early career researcher about career opportunities in Germany. Delegation members were particularly interested in the drug development pipeline at the GIBH and discussed collaborations in this area with a GIBH team led by CTO Micky Tortorella. Both sides expressed the intend to strengthen collaborations in research and teaching and promote the mutual exchange of students and postdocs to facilitate collaborative efforts.
