Prof Lei ai wen from the University of Wuhan visits GIBH

Date:Mar 27, 2014

On the 7th of March, Prof Lei ai wen visited GIBH and gave a presentation entitled: “One or Two Electron Redox-Oxidative Coupling and the Kinetics/Mechanism Revealed by Operando XAS, IR, EPR and Raman”. The seminar was hosted by Prof Zhu Qiang from the Institute of Chemical Biology in GIBH and many scientists and students have attended the meeting.

Prof Lei had been engaged in the field of Efficient organic catalytic metal, Activation of small molecules, Green Organic Synthesis and mechanisms for many years. During his presentation, Prof Lei mainly focuses on the mechanisms of Organometallic Catalysis. Organometallic oxidative coupling reactions play an important role in organic synthesis and drug synthesis. The research group led by Prof Lei has developed a series of metal-catalyzed oxidative coupling methods, and Prof Lei had explained in detail regarding the three generations of oxidative coupling methods during the meeting. In particular, Prof Lei’s research group has used Online infrared, Synchrotron Radiation and Paramagnetic resonance techniques to study the mechanisms of metal-catalysis. Their scientific achievements have attracted wide attention from domestic and foreign experts. The oxidative coupling methods developed by Prof Lei’s group have many advantages, such as good selectivity, pollution free and have great potential in the field of chemical pharmaceutical.

All the audience have enjoyed the presentation and Prof Lei had in depth discussion with the attendees after the talk.

Currently, Prof Lei is a professor from the University of Wuhan, he has won dozens of prestigious International scientific awards, such as the the Young Scientist British Royal Society of Chemistry Award and the Eli Lilly Outstanding Achievement Award. In addition, Prof Lei has been invited to gave scientific presentations in more than 150 conferences and published more than 100 scientific papers in many international journals.
