Prof. CHU Wenming of Uiversity of Hawaii visits GIBH

In response to GIBH’s invitation, Prof. Wenming CHU of Unverisity of Hawaii Cancer Center visited GIBH on the morning of July 25th and delivered a seminar on Inflammation and Tumor. Dr. Xiaoping CHEN, director of Center for Infection and Immunity at GIBH chaired the seminar.

 

Prof. Chu introduced the mechanism of Gi1/Gi2/Gi3 of G protein regulation during the oncogenesis of mouse colon cancer, their influence on the function of DC cells as well as their interactions with innate immune receptor TLR. In the meantime, he elaborated the progress his team has been making in preventing the growth of breast cancer and liver cancer. Towards the end of his lecture, he explained some interesting questions and exchanged opinions with the audience regarding the role of inflammation in tumor occurrence and treatment. During his visit, potential collaborations with GIBH research teams had been discussed in the field of cancer prevention, combined biological treatment, and new therapeutic regime of old drugs.

 

Prof. Wenming CHU graduated from Nanjing Medical College. He went to the University of California to do post-doctoral research in 1994, where he had focused his research in infection and inflammation. He currently works at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center focused on the research of colon and breast cancer. Many results of his research have been published in high-profile journals such as Cell Signal, Science Signal, etc.
