Dr. Anne-Marie Malfait from Rush University Medical School visits GIBH

On June 21st Dr. Anne-Marie visited GIBH. During her visit, many scientific sessions were held to review the latest research in Osteoarthritis (OA) pain and to discuss possible cooperation's between Rush Medical and GIBH. Dr. Malfait gave an excellent lecture, entitled “Pain in Osteoarthritis”. Her vivid and enthusiastic lecturing aroused a warm response and provoked many questions from the audience.

On June 22nd, Dr. Malfait worked with the GIBH research scientists in the Animal Center, and demonstrated how to dissect and draw samples from synovial tissues of the rat knee joints and advised the team how to preserve human tissues and culture cell primary chondrocytes.

Dr.Anne-Marie Malfait received her PhD degree at University of Ghent, Belgium in 1994. From 2003-2009, she was a Senior Principal Research Scientist at Pfizer Global Research and Development, St.Louis, MO. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry from the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Rheumatology at Rush University Medical School, Chicago IL. Her current research mainly focuses on Osteoarthritis and associated pain.
