GIBH Meets with Pfizer Global Research and Development

On the morning of April 12, Dr. Steve Q.Yang, Head of Research, Asia, and Dr. Alex Fowkes, Executive Director, Head of Strategic Alliances, Asia, Pfizer Global Research & Development (PGRD) visited Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The guests from PGRD were warmly welcomed by Dr. Ling CHEN, Director-General of GIBH and other Principal Investigators.

 

After the guests were shown around the facility of the institute, a meeting was held between two parties. In the meeting, brief presentations were given in regard of GIBH and Pfizer respectively by Dr. Chen and Dr. Fowkes. And a lively discussion was held concerning possible collaborations between GIBH and PGRD in the near future.

 

After the meeting, accompanied by Director Chen, the guests also paid an on-site visit to the Non-human Primate Center of GIBH. Located at a monkey farm, the Center contains more than 5,000 Cynomolgus and Rhesus monkeys, with a standard lab (~500 m2, 124 cages). The guests were greatly impressed by the rapid development of GIBH since its foundation in 2004 and the animal facility services provided by the institute.

 

Pfizer is the world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical company. PGRD has links with more than 250 partners in academia and industry to strengthen its position on the cutting edge of science and biotechnology. And currently the Pfizer (China) Research and Development is focused on bridging the best research in China to PGRD.
