Summing-Up Meeting for 2006 Held in GIBH

An annual summing–up meeting for the year 2006 was held on Feb.9^th in GIBH. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Huang Jianchong, CPC Secretary and Deputy Director of the institute. All the scientific faculty and administrative personnel attended the meeting.

The theme of the meeting is “Foster innovation, seek development”. In retrospect, Director Chen Ling pointed out in his summary report that the past year is a year that significant progress has been achieved by the institute, the disciplinary layout being perfected, the composition of personnel being optimized, and more international exchanges and collaborations with local institutions or corporations being greatly accelerated. In March 2006, the establishment of GIBH was officially approved by the State Commission Office for Public Sector Reform. The GIBH-GMC Lab for Respiratory Diseases and the GIBH-USTC Co-founded Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology were successfully constructed. By the end of 2006, 18 research teams have been set up; the number of staff has increased to more than 200; and more than RMB 300 million has been granted to GIBH, quadrupling that of 2005. Through the efforts of all the staff members, the institute has attracted more and more attentions and is gradually building up its worldwide fame within the biotechnological industry. Representatives or guests from major pharmaceutical corporations both at home and abroad have come to visit GIBH.

In conclusion, Director Chen expressed his gratitude to the entire staff for their industrious work and contributions to the institute throughout the past year, as well as his expectations for GIBH of further progress and fruitful achievements in the coming new year.
