Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Co-founded by GIBH and USTC

On the morning of December 26, 2006, the Ceremony for the Appointment of Prof. CHEN Ling to be the Head of the USTC-GIBH Co-found Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology was held in the Conference Room of Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Present at the ceremony were Mr. DOU Xiankang, vice-president of University of Science and Technology of China, Mr. NIU Liwen, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, USTC, investigators of GIBH as well as student representatives of the Joint Department.

 

The ceremony was hosted by Mr. HUANG Jianchong, Secretary of GIBH. After reading out the university’s decision to engage Prof. CHEN Ling as Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, the vice-president of USTC granted him the letter of appointment. Thus, Dr. CHEN Ling, Director-General of GIBH began to function as the first head of the Joint Department. After the awarding ceremony, Director Chen delivered a speech expressing his gratitude for the trust and responsibilities that USTC had conferred on him and GIBH, as well as his determination to fulfill his obligation and work hard with all the other investigators in GIBH so as to build the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology into a training base for innovative biomedical talents of higher quality. A complementary agreement on the Joint Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology was signed by the two parties afterward.

 

After the appointment ceremony, Mr. Niu, Dean of the School of Life Sciences held a meeting with the principal investigators and the students of the Joint Department.
