Date:Feb 05, 2007

On Nov. 24th, 2006, a symposium of GIBH-GMC Joint Lab of Respiratory Diseases was held in GIBH as scheduled. It was the first symposium since the foundation of the Joint Lab by a concerted of effort of GIBH and Guangzhou Medical College. Prof. ZHONG Nanshan, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Dr. CHEN Ling, Director-General, Mr. PEI Duanqing, Deputy Director-General of GIBH as well as some core members from both sides attended the symposium. The main target of the symposium is to give play to each other’s advantages, enhance mutual understandings in areas related to respiratory diseases so as to further promote the development of the Joint Lab.

In the symposium, Prof. Zhong, Director Chen and Director Pei respectively gave reports on R&D trends in respiratory diseases, influenza and avian influenza vaccine and pharmaceutical research, and the development of new medicine on lung cancer. Some other researchers from both parties also gave presentations in related areas.

At the end of the symposium, Director Chen concluded the discussion by pointing out that the collaboration between GIBH and GMC had sufficiently revealed the mutual benefits by taking advantages of each other’s strengths, and gradually realized the biomedical chain from bench to clinic, and from molecular level to an integrated whole. As long as communications and cooperation to larger extents were made, more achievements of advanced world standards would be accomplished by the Lab.

The symposium was unanimously considered by all participants as an admirable beginning, which had laid foundations for more future exchanges and better understandings between the two parties.
