Delegation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong Visited GIBH

On July 27th, a delegation of more than 10 people from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) visited GIBH for academic exchange. The experts from CUHK includes Prof. Henry N.C. Wong, Head of New Asia College, Prof. Hsiang-fu Kung, Professor of Virology at the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases and Academician of CAS, Prof. Y.M. Dennis Lo, Associate Dean (Research) of the Department of Medicine, Prof. Ho-Keung Ng, Associate Dean of the Department of Medicine (Research) and Director of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology, Prof. Anthony T.C. Chan, Associate Dean of the Department of Medicine (External Affairs) and Director of Sir Y.K Pao Centre for Cancer, Prof. P.C. Leung, Director of the Institute of Chinese Medicine, and Prof. K.P. Fung, Chairman of Department of Biochemistry and so on.
CUHK is a comprehensive research university with 13 institutes. The main purpose of the visit by CUHK is to exchange academic ideas in related disciplines and discuss common challenges and current opportunities in the field of biomedicine.
Dr. Ling Chen, Director General of GIBH, and Mr. Jianchong Huang, Secretary of GIBH expressed warm welcome to the delegation from CUHK. Mr. Hongmin Hou, Division Chief of CAS Guangzhou Branch and members from the Office of External Affairs also participated in the reception. At the symposium whereafter, Director General Chen introduced to the guests the progress of GIBH’s development during the past 3 years and made a special introduction on the progress in the research concerning such fields as emerging infectious disease (AIDS, flu, etc.), the globalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the technology platform of antibody and anti-tumor medicine at GIBH. Several GIBH principal investigators also introduced their respective major therapeutic-area-focused research and main research projects to the guests.
Prof. Henry N.C. Wong, also a member of CAS, gave a brief introduction on the recent research progress at CUHK, including the research projects of several institutes at CUHK and co-operations between CUHK and parties both at home and abroad. Later, Prof. Y.M. Dennis Lo, Prof. P.C. Leung, Prof. Anthony T.C Chan and Prof. Ho-Keung Ng, respectively introduced their achievements in the fields of medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, cancer and pathology. They also discussed new projects as well as new methods in their respective fields. Meanwhile, researchers from both sides had a fruitful exchange on the possible mechanism for mutual cooperation and resource-sharing.
After the symposium, experts from CUHK expressed their appreciation on the development made by GIBH in such a short time. They also expressed their eager anticipation for potential collaborative research and development projects between the two sides and warmly invited GIBH to pay a return visit. It is believed that the visits not only would promote both cultural and scientific exchanges between CUHK and GIBH but will also expand scientific co-operation between Guangdong and Hong Kong.
