On Nov 12-14, Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH), the Chinese Academy of Sciences, including its senior administrators and all principle investigators, conducted the 2005 progress report forum (PI retreat) at the picturesque Meizhou Yanming Lake.

Director General Ling Chen and Deputy Director General Duanqing Pei chaired the discussion forum in which all principle investigators presented the progress of their research projects, awarded grants and future application plans, internal and external collaborations, and their strategies for better utilizing each others strength, organizing individual investigators into discovery teams, and enhancing the overall chances of success at GIBH.

This forum clearly showed the rapid progress of GIBH. In particular, it presented an opportunity for GIBH investigators to fully comprehend each other’s research and development capabilities. Director Chen summarized the progress of each investigator and placed them within the context of the strategic direction of GIBH as developing 10 technology platforms that support 4 major research areas including infectious diseases, cancer, metabolic diseases and regenerative medicine. He also strongly encouraged GIBH investigators to further develop their expertise to complement each others research and development goals.

In addition, GIBH investigators paid a tribute to the contribution of General Jianying Ye, an early revolutionary vanguard, to the modernization of China by visiting his memorial home.
