Global Scientists Gather in Guangzhou for 2025 Spatial Biology Congress
The Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held 2025 Spatial Biology Congress in Guangzhou on June 26 and 27, in partnership with the China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB) and Global Engage. The event brought together over 180 experts, researchers, and industry innovators from 13 countries.
Fei Sun, Deputy Director General (Acting in Charge) of GIBH delivered the Opening Remarks. He gave a warm welcome to all the speakers and attendees traveled from far and wide, and pointed out that spatial biology is a field redefining how we study biological systems. As it develops as a new scientific frontier, this congress represents a pivotal opportunity to shape its trajectory.
Spatial biology is a also very important part of Human Cell Lineage Atlas Facility (CLAF), a national large research infrastructure launched by GIBH. It aspires to establish itself as a pioneering global hub for cell lineage research. By integrating single-cell resolution, multi-dimensional data, and spatiotemporal profiling—alongside cross-validation between living cells and computational models, CLAF will advance cutting-edge exploration of human development and diseases. Expected to be fully ready in 2029, the facility will provide global research institutions, universities, hospitals and enterprises with access to state-of-the-art sample analysis, bioinformatics services, and collaboration tools and gradually develop into a world-class science center which transforms life and healthcare industry.
Prof. Rong Fan from Yale University, Prof. Jingyi Jessica Li from University of California, Prof. Alistair Forrest from University of Western Australia and Naveed Ishaque, Group Leader of Berlin Institute of Health at the Charité and other 22 invited speakers have shared their insights on spatial multi-omics technologies, AI and data science and other breakthroughs in spatial biology. Besides, the event hosted in-depth panel discussions, poster sessions showcasing emerging research and networking forums to further stimulate collaboration to propel the field forward.
This event was supported by the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS.
