Professor Giulia Zanetti is a leading international scholar in in situ cryo-EM and theeukaryotic secretory pathway. She pioneered multiscale cryo-electron tomography, combining in vitro reconstituted COPIl membrane systems with FIB-milled in situmaging to systematically reveal how vesicle coat complexes assemble in the earlysecretory pathway. Her work has appeared in Cell, Nature Cell Biology, NatureStructural & Molecular Biology and other top journals, with invited reviews in NatureReviews Molecular Cell Biology. She has received the Biochemical Society's ColworthMedal and has led an EU ERC Starting Grant and several MRC major grants. Sheserved as a reviewing editor for eLife, advises international research institutions, andorganizes the EMBO international cryo-EM course.

Professor Giulia Zanetti’s lab investigates the molecular organisation of membrane trafficking events during ER-to-Golgi transport of secretory proteins. Using high-resolution cryo-ET and subtomogram averaging of in vitro reconstituted COPII-coated membranes, combined with in situ cryo-ET of FIB-milled human cells, her group has shed light on the structure and mechanisms of coat complexes in the early secretory pathway.
