1. To study the molecular regulation mechanism of cell fate determination based on somatic cell reprogramming and to develop a technology system focusing on the application of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
2. To excavate the important biological mechanism by bioinformatics based on the data of epigenetic group and single-cell transcriptome collected in the cell fate transformation model.
Jiekai Chen has been devoted to studying the epigenetic regulation mechanism of cell fate determination, and has made important breakthroughs in induced pluripotent stem cells. His honors include: (1) Improved the efficiency of reprogramming from 0.001% to 20%, which greatly promotes the development of this field; (2) Discovered the methylation of Histone H3K9 is a key obstacle of reprogramming, which also guides the study of somatic cell nuclear transplantation; (3) Tet1 and Kdm2b are regulated by extracellular signals in reprogramming; (4) Found the transcriptional activity of AP-1 family can maintain the process of somatic cell reprogramming, and revealed the regulatory mechanism of chromatin accessibility in reprogramming. He has published 37 scientific papers in SCI-peer reviewed journals including Cell Stem Cell, Nature Genetics, Nature Cell Biology, Cell Reports and Cell Research. He was supported by the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National Natural Science Foundation of Young Scholars, Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of Guangdong Province of China. He has been awarded the Outstanding young scientists of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the "Special Support Plan" of Guangdong Province. He won the first prize of science and technology in Guangdong Province In 2015, the South Guangdong Innovation Award (team) in 2016, and the 2017’s Outstanding Science and Technology Achevement Prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Major Contributor) in 2017.
