Research Areas

The research group focused on mechanistic studies of latent infection and reactivation of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) within the spectrum of cytopathology and immunometabolics. For this purpose, the group has established a new method for immortalizing human lymphocytes to create cell lines for chronic active lymphocytosis (CAEBV) and hemophagocytosis (HLH) infected by EBV, and has established T and NK cell lines derived from CAEBV patients. We have conducted interactomics research on the interaction between LMP1 and host factors through immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry analysis. It was discovered that EBV latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) promotes the degradation of the RIG-I signaling pathway and inhibits the secretion of interferon β via the proteasome pathway. The group has identified microRNA that plays a major regulatory role and is resolving the mechanism of virus establishment and maintenance of latent infection, as well as screening for drugs to activate virus reservoirs and facilitate clearance. Considering the important role of adipocytes in EBV infection and inflammation, the mechanism of short-chain fatty acid metabolism and its cooperation with the intestinal microbiota in animals were analyzed. Additionally, the immortal cell bank of the Chinese nation has been established and improved by using the mechanism of EB virus to transfect lymphoid B cells in vitro, and the information management and quality control system of the cell bank have been established and improved, either.
