Research Areas

As a principal investigator in Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Lai’s lab is focusing on genetic modification of large animals, Human and animal stem cells, and animal cloning.

Dr. Lai has been undertaking many national major scientific research programs, such as 973 program (National Program on Key Basic Research Projects), 863 Program (National High-tech R&D Program of China). He has published more than 200 peer review papers in the international journals including Science, Cell, Cell Stem Cell, and Nature Biotechnology. He was a winner of Best of What’s New Grand Award from Popular Science in the medical Technology category, 2002. His two achievements were listed as world top 100 science news story by Discover magazine. As of now, his team has produced more than 100 kinds of genetically modified large animals including pigs, dogs and rabbits with important applications in biomedicine and agriculture.
