Two New Recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in GIBH
On November 20th, the project approval results of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars 2019 (hereinafter referred to as "National Distinguished Young Scholars") were announced. Principal investigators Yao Hongjie and Wang Jinyong from GIBH stood out from 3159 applicants.
PI Yao Hongjie has long been committed to the research of stem cell epigenetic regulation. As a project leader, he has successively received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Pilot Project of Stem Cells and Pipeline Research of the National Key Research and Development Programme, the Strategic Leading Science and Technology Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering Project of the Guangdong Provincial Major Science and Technology Project, and the Guangdong Provincial Major Basic Research Incubation Project; he has also participated in the major scientific research programme for stem cells (973) of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Over recent years, his research achievements have been published in academic journals such as Cell Stem Cell, Nature Communications, Genes & Development as the corresponding author or the first author.
PI Wang Jinyong took the lead in establishing the research platform of "blood and immune cell regeneration" in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and served as the team leader, focusing on the research of "anti-leukemia immune cell regeneration and the in-situ repair of leukemia bone marrow in microenvironment" for a long time, and has scored a series of original technology breakthroughs in the field of T cell regeneration with multiple invention patents. His exploration and research were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Major Scientific Research Programme of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Strategic Leading Science and Technology Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Guangdong Provincial Major Science and Technology Project, and the Guangzhou Health and Medical Treatment Synergistic Innovation Key Project. In recent years, he has published many research papers as a corresponding author in academic journals such as Nature Immunology, accumulated a number of PCT invention patents, and been invited to deliver key-note speeches in professional academic organizations both at home and abroad.
National Distinguished Young Scholars is a special talent fund established by the national government to support young scholars who have made outstanding achievements in basic research to carry out innovative research and create a group of outstanding academic leaders who will be standing at the world's scientific and technological frontiers. A total of 296 people were officially selected this year.
