The symposium on Stem Cells and Cloning of the Xiangshan Science Conferences(XSSC) was successfully organized by GIBH during November 20-22. The Central topics of the Symposium include: the regulatory mechanism of the stem cell totipotency, committed/ directional differentiation of stem cells, therapeutic cloning, adult stem cell plasticity, etc.  More than 40 scholars and specialists from all over the world working in this area participated in the conference, including Dr. Duanqing PEI, Deputy Director General of GIBH, as the executive chairman of the conference, as well as other principal investigators of South China Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regeneration Medicine.

The Xiangshan Science Conference (XSSC) was created in 1993, whose mission is to promote multi- or inter-disciplinary research, overall comprehensive studies, innovative thinking and knowledge innovation by creating a relaxed environment for academic exchanges, upholding the spirit of free academic discussion, and giving priority to scientific frontiers and their future development.

An XSSC officer figured out that this symposium had the most heated and sufficient discussions ever had by the 313 symposiums since its foundation. And the topics put forward in the symposium were of great novelty and prospect, which has attracted much attention and interest from both at home and abroad, in particular in such disciplines as iPS, the research of which is conducted in China for the first time, and pig cloning by Dr. Liangxue LAI from the South China Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regeneration Medicine, GIBH.
