GIBH has formally announced the establishment of the South China Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regeneration Medicine, which is the first subunit of Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Stem cell biology and regeneration medicine is a newly burgeoning discipline in the field of biomedicine and health, which has attracted worldwide attention. GIBH, since its foundation, has attached great importance to this area and much work has been done with regard to the scientist recruitment, staff training, grant application, etc., having laid a solid foundation for the future development.

The Institute aims to collaborate with various scientific organizations in this area in South China, speed up the basic research and accelerate its industrialization, building the Institute into one of the research centers in stem cell biology and regeneration medicine.

Dr. Duanqing PEI, deputy director general of GIBH is at the same time director of the South China Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regeneration Medicine, and Dr. Liangxue LAI, Principal Investigator of GIBH was appointed to be the deputy director of the Institute.

The Institute is devoted to such areas as the maintenance of pluripotency in stem cell, the mechanism of stem cell differentiation, cell cycle, the neural stem cells, stem cell biochemistry, the stem cell technology platform and the nuclear reprogramming of somatic cells.
