Research Areas

Prof. Zhu has been a principal investigator and academic leader at the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, since 2008. In 2011, he was honored with the "Hundred Talent Program" award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. With eight years of postdoctoral and drug development experience in the United States, he returned to China and has since focused on the novel and efficient synthesis methodologies for heterocycles and the development of antibacterial drugs, achieving numerous innovative breakthroughs.

In recognition of his contributions, he received the second prize for the Guangzhou Science and Technology Progress Award (as the first completer) in 2015 and the third prize for the Guangdong Science and Technology Award (also as the first completer) in 2016. To date, he has published over 80 articles independently in high-quality international SCI journals and has applied for five Chinese patents. He currently chairs ten projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as by the Natural Science Foundations of Guangdong and Guangzhou.

Prof. Zhu has been recognized as an "Outstanding Postgraduate Tutor" at the Guangzhou education base of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in both 2012 and 2016, and he received the "Outstanding Postgraduate Tutor" award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012.
