Center for Infection & Immunity

Center for Infection and Immunity mainly targets the major global infectious diseases: AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and hepatitis C. Center is focused on the study of disease etiology (HIV, TB, malaria parasite and HCV), pathogenic mechanism and immunology, in an effort to develop innovative vaccines and new therapeutic medications. A distinctive characteristic of Center is exploration of co-infection and interaction between infectious diseases, taking advantage of non-human primate animal models. As a result, infectious immunology and pathogenic patterns of emerging diseases will be looked into from a different and unique perspective.

Center for Infection and Immunity consists of five labs: Pathogen Biology Lab, Immunological Biology Lab, Viral Immunology Lab, Vaccine and Biological Pharmaceutics’ Lab, and Bacteriology Lab. Three more labs including Molecular Immunology Lab, Tuberculosis Lab and AIDS Lab are currently being established.

Center is dedicated to developing itself into an international first-class institution with a major role in undertaking national and regional vital issues when needed, such as dealing with urgent and large-scale epidemics in Southern, China.

We expect that our Center will become a leading research facility targeting the major global infectious diseases: AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and hepatitis C. Center will be expected to quickly respond and organize joint efforts to tackle national or regional epidemic emergencies, such as outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases.
